ABOUT ESOTÉRICA AND ITS ORIGINS
Margaret Modlin arrived in Madrid in 1970 and settled on Calle del Pez, the very street where Esotérica opens its doors today. From here she created a body of work charged with psychedelia, mysticism and erotic symbolism, building a world of her own between prophecy, desire and the end of the world.
In her search for a formula that would make her eternal, Modlin proclaimed herself the greatest painter of the apocalypse. Decades after her death, her presence still pulses through Madrid; and at Esotérica we like to think she has found a new way to remain.
A THRESHOLD INTO THE UNKNOWN
Esotérica is born inspired by Margaret Modlin's vision: a place where art, symbolism and the hidden language of objects meet. At first glance, it is a carefully curated shop of esoteric objects, ritual pieces and symbolic items chosen with rigour and good taste. But Esotérica is also a threshold. Beyond the shop, the space opens onto an intimate cocktail bar, devoted to the unknown, to the stimulation of the senses and to the quiet mystery of the night. Here, elixirs, tarot, gastronomy and meaningful objects are all part of one and the same experience: an invitation to cross from the visible toward something more suggestive, personal and unexpected.
